Welcome to the Taliaferro Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution! We are tucked in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio and along the beautiful Ohio River.

 

Brown County, particularly Georgetown, is the boyhood home of Ulysses S. Grant, 18th President of the United States of America.  President Grant lived here from 1823 (when he was 1 yr old) until 1839, when he left for the United States Military Academy at

West Point. Brown County is rich in history and tradition and

is home to one of two Ohio veterans homes.

Historic Preservation

Education

Patriotism

DAR members participate in an array of projects to help preserve our cultural heritage, including:

 

  • Installing a flag pole, flag, and lights at the schoolhouse where President Ulysses S. Grant attended

  • Restoring and maintaining other historical sites

  • Locating, restoring, and marking Revolutionary War patriot gravesites and headstones

  • Organizing and contributing to major restorations, commemorations, and memorials

  • Preserving genealogical records, artifacts, and historical documents

DAR members are passionate about educating the youth of America and contributing to schools and student programs in a variety of ways, including:

 

  • Supporting local schools in citizenship awards

  • Providing scholarships and funds to American Indian children and schools

  • Providing scholarships and awards to outstanding students

  • Promoting education and citizenship through youth programs such as DAR Good Citizen and Junior American Citizens

DAR members' love of country is evident in the multitude of patriotic endeavors they pursue, including:

 

  • Visiting, volunteering, and honoring our veterans regularly with time and resources who reside in the Ohio Veterans Home

  • Donating money to the Brown County Hospital to install new parking lot lights 

  • Providing hours of volunteer time annually to veterans in Veterans Administration hospitals and non-VA facilities

  • Offering support to America’s service personnel in current conflicts abroad through care packages, phone cards, and other needed items
